How to Compare Wireless Broadband

With a wireless router, there's no need to hook your desktop or laptop computer to your Internet modem using a physical cable. Not all routers are made alike, however, and several defining characteristics can help you compare and choose the best wireless router for your broadband connection.
Follow this step:
  1. Step 1

Compare the band rating on the wireless routers. The devices are typically labeled as dual-band 5Ghz routers or single-band 2.4Ghz routers. The latter cost less and are sufficient for most areas except for Wi-Fi saturated areas (like city high rises) where you'll want dual-band devices for the best reception, according to CNET.

  2. Step 2

Check the routing technology. Most routers either have the current 802.11n standard or the older 802.11g standard. N-models provide browsing speeds up to five times faster than G-models, according to Consumer Search, and are the best choice if you want optimal Internet surfing speed.

  3. Step 3

Inspect the connector ports on the router. The router will have at least one Ethernet cable for connecting to your broadband modem, and often has several extra Ethernet ports in case you want to physically connect a computer or device instead of using its wireless signal. Choose a router that has enough extra ports to connect your devices should the wireless signal malfunction.

  4. Step 4

Review the range of the wireless router. The greater the range, the further you can be from the router and still obtain a wireless Internet signal. Manufacturers typically list the range in terms of feet on the router's box or label.

  5. Step 5

Review the wireless security available on the router. This keeps hackers and unscrupulous neighbors from using your Internet connection. Consumer Reports magazine recommends Wi-Fi Protected Access 2 (WPA2) security standards for the best security, or Wired Equivalent Privacy (WEP) at the very minimum. This information is always listed on the product's box or label.

The speed of your Internet connection affects various aspects of your computer usage, from sending and receiving files to surfing the Web and sending emails. Over a period of weeks, a slow Internet connection can add hours of waiting time to your average day. Thus, a sluggish Internet connection is not just an inconvenience, but a productivity issue. Learn how to make your Internet speed faster to get the most out of your Internet connection and make the most with your time.
Follow step below:
  • Step 1

Open Internet Explorer, the default Web browser included in all copies of Microsoft Windows. Click "Tools" and select "Internet Options" from the drop-down menu. In the dialog box that appears, select the Security tab. Click on the Internet icon and choose "Custom" in the security levels listed. Uncheck the box next to the following security options: Download Unsigned ActiveX Controls; Initialize and Script ActiveX Controls Not Marked As Safe; and Scripting of Java Applets. Removing these options will decrease the amount of data that Internet Explorer tries to download, making Web pages with these elements load faster. Disabling these features can also make the Internet Explorer browser more secure.

  • Step 2

Return to the main "Internet Options" window in Step 1. Drag the slider for Internet Explorer's cache to the right to increase the amount of hard drive space that the browser uses to store commonly-accessed Web page data. By accessing locally-stored data instead of downloading it from the Web, your browser is able to load websites at a faster rate.

  • Step 3

Click "Start" and select "My Computer." Open the C:\ drive. Click "Documents and Settings," and double-click on "Local Settings." Open the "temp" file and clear all the contents.

  • Step 4

Install OpenDNS on your computer (link in the Resources section). This lets your browser access the OpenDNS cache, significantly speeding up your Internet connection by downloading pre-saved website data stored on the OpenDNS servers. On a Mac, select "System Preferences" in the Apple menu. Click on "Network" and select "Built-In Ethernet

    Avoid Computer Repair on Laptop

Having a reliable source of computer repair can be a great comfort when your laptop breaks down, but prevention is always the best medicine. Laptops are especially susceptible to problems because they are so mobile. Its mobility is its strength but it can also be its downfall. Exercise a bit of care in order to make yours last longer.

Here are 5 tips for keeping the machine healthy:

    1) Invest in a padded case complete with a zipper or buckle. Make certain that there is adequate padding on both sides of the case and keep it closed up when not in use, in order to avoid dust and dirt seeping in. Toting the fragile laptop around in a backpack, or even worse, no container at all, is inviting damage.

    2) Keep your machine away from extreme temperatures. Tossing it into the trunk of a car in mid-summer is not a good idea. Freezing temperatures and humidity can also be detrimental to the longevity of a notebook.

    3) Close its lid and turn it off when not in use. Dust can settle quickly on the keyboard and enter the other openings, as well, creating havoc with the electrical system. Be sure to clean it off as necessary, but keeping it closed up and put away will greatly aid in keeping it spic and span and functioning properly.

    4) Watch the food and drink. If you are sipping tea or soda and eating your lunch while working on your notebook, set yourself up to be as stable as possible. Arrange the items you are working on, including your computer and your food items, upon a solid surface such as a desk or table. This will offer optimum chance of successfully carrying out multi-tasking endeavors.

    5) Take laptops to the beach with extreme care. The idea of doing your work or carrying out email correspondence while on vacation can be an inviting idea, but do so with extreme caution. Did you know that many digital cameras, electronic devices and computers die on the beach? Blowing sand can be the kiss of death to the fragile makeup of an electronic device. Sand is even worse than household dust because of its gritty nature. The beach’s sand knows how to mysteriously embed itself into everything that appears along its shoreline--shoes, hair, picnic lunches and most devastating of all – your computer.

Follow the above 5 tips and your laptop will last longer and serve you well. Avoid computer repair issues with some common sense as well as adequate TLC.

    How desktop Virtualization works

Desktop Virtualizations, Desktop twin, How to make desktop virtualizations, PC to many desktop, Virtualizations
There are many approaches to virtualization

Most virtualization technologies are expensive to acquire, implement, and maintain. NComputing is different because we save you money from day one. Our desktop virtualization technology allows up to 30 users to simultaneously use a single computer—at a very low cost.
Up to 95% of PC power is wasted
It is all possible because the average PC user only needs about 5 percent of the computer’s capacity. So you can cut your costs (significantly), with products that are extremely easy to use, simple to set up and maintain, and incredibly eco-friendly, too. Plus, NComputing solutions can integrate with other machine virtualization technologies to put hundreds of users on a single server. You can even give each user their own virtual machine in a one-to-one VDI configuration. This flexibility makes it easy for NComputing to solve your toughest IT challenges whether you’re deploying five seats or over 100,000 seats.
    From one, many
Do you have more than one user account on your computer? Maybe there’s a user account for you, a guest, and an administrator. Each person gets their own software, settings, screen colors, and so on, but only one person can use the PC at a time. Until now. NComputing vSpace desktop virtualization software allows multiple user accounts to be used at the same time by efficiently dividing the computer's resources into independent sessions.
    How it works
There are three parts to the NComputing solution.

    • First is the vSpace software, which allows standard Linux and Windows PCs to be shared by multiple simultaneous users. With vSpace, each person runs their own applications, just as if they had their own PC. Software and updates can be found in our Software Download Center (must be a registered user to access).
    • Second is the UXP communications protocol. UXP is the method by which the desktop images and audio are sent to the access device and how the keyboard and mouse data is sent back to the PC. UXP is highly efficient, and excels at multimedia and audio/video synchronization.
    • Third are the access devices. They are inexpensive, small, low-power, reliable, durable boxes. On one side they plug into the users’ peripherals (such as the keyboard, monitor and mouse). On the other side, they connect via cables to the shared PC.

If all of your users are clustered in workgroups and are all close to the shared computers, consider the X-series (lowest cost) or U-series (add one desktop at a time).

If you have users who need to be more than 10 meters away from the shared computer, choose the L-series.

Because NComputing designs all three parts of the solution—the virtualization software, the communications protocol, and the access devices—we are able to deliver the lowest cost and best performance available.

How to Make an Email Signature for Yahoo Mail

    Posted on 01:19 by Unknown
An email signature is an efficient way to provide all those details you want to include in every email without having to retype them. You can configure Yahoo! Mail to automatically insert the same signature into every email you send.
    Instructions
    1. Step1

Sign in to your Yahoo! Mail account. From the top navigation bar, click on "Options." You can find this on the far right-side of the screen.

    2. Step2

Find the "Signature" link in the "Management" column on the right side of the screen. If you do not see it, make sure "Mail" is selected in the "Options" menu at the left.

    3. Step3

Decide what information you want to be placed into your Yahoo! Mail signature. You can include your name, employment title, email address, mailing address, phone number, fax number or any other information you want. Some people like to include a brief quote or humorous line at the bottom of their signatures.

    4. Step4

Input the information into the text field. Click on "Color and Graphics" to change the font color, font size and font style of your text and to add emotions to your signature.

    5. Step5

Click the "Add signature to all outgoing messages" checkbox if you always want to use your signature. If you may not always want to use your signature, you can leave this unchecked and add your signature only when you want to.

    6. Step6

Hit the "Save" button at the bottom when you are done creating your signature.

    7. Step7

Add your signature manually by checking the "Use my signature" check box at the bottom of every Yahoo! Mail message. Although you will not see your signature, it will be added to the bottom of your email when it is sent.

    How to Filter the internet

    Posted on 21:23 by Unknown

Save our children from Adult Site !

Barracuda hardware based web and spam filters are expensive, they are definitely better but do you need such a powerful hardware? If you own a small to medium business, buying one of these hardware web filters can cost you a bomb, why waste money when OpenDNS allows you to filter out unwanted contents for free? If you’re a parent, do note that web filtering software can be cracked or patched by your kids to bypass them, however, a hardware based web filter is almost unbreakable and better, unless they reset the router.

How do set up your own ‘free’ hardware based p2p traffic and content filtering software? You’ll need a router and an OpenDNS account.
    • Step 1 – Sign up for the free OpenDNS account (Remember to verify your account, check your email)
    • Step 2 – Login to OpenDNS, go to the ‘Settings’ tab and click on the ‘Add this network’ button
    • Step 3 – When you’re done, click on the IP Link (Blue colour, underlined)

    • Step 4 – A new page will be loaded, select ‘Custom’ and choose the categories you want to block.
    • Step 5 – When you’re done, click ‘Apply’, you can add individual domains (max 25 for free accounts)

    • Step 6 – Open the preferences for your router, find the DNS server settings, put in the OpenDNS server addresses as your DNS server settings and save/apply. Please write down your current settings before entering the OpenDNS addresses, just in case.

              208.67.222.222
              208.67.220.220

    • Step 7 – Restart your computer and router

    And the results:

There you go, why pay for an expensive hardware when OpenDNS has the ability to transform your cheap router into a powerful web filtering content system. OpenDNS has more on how to change your DNS settings for various router such as Huawei, Apple, D-Link, NetGear, 3 Com, Belkin and more.
